For Such A Time As This...

Our story as a church was a “God-idea”. In 1990, Bishop Johnson and Lady Chrys found themselves stranded in the USA after a conference. They had come with 2 weeks’ worth of luggage for a bible conference and about a week and a half into their trip, their homeland Liberia had broken out into a violent civil war. They began to seek God on what to do as they were the senior pastors of a thriving church in Monrovia, Liberia. In seeking God, they heard the words “Be a Missionary and not a refugee”. They obeyed and planted this church based on that word.

Truly, God’s hand has been at work in our midst. Since 1990, God has used us as a beacon of hope in the Washington DC Metropolitan area to reveal to ordinary people the love of an extraordinary God. Through this Ministry, thousands of people from all walks of life have found freedom in Christ, discovered their passions and God-given abilities, and are living fruitful lives serving God and others. 

Since we moved to our current location in Olney, we have used a gymnasium on the grounds as our worship center. The gymnasium—has to be set up and taken down each weekend, and we’re already nearing capacity with two services each Sunday. Our youth and children areas have become inadequate due to our growing church, and we’re currently unable to accommodate all of the youth and children if they were to all show up on a Sunday. 

Building this sanctuary is an opportunity to partner with each other and with God to build a bigger sanctuary to the glory of God!
